Aubrey Smith waited until Senior Night at Buford High School in Georgia to announce his decision, and it was worth the wait for the Colorado Buffaloes.

The three-star linebacker is No. 17 on CU's 2022 commit list.

"This path for my life of playing football has been challenging yet rewarding," Smith wrote in a tweet. "I'm grateful for my support system which includes all of the coaches that have coached me to get to this point in my life. Their unyielding support and leadership helped make this an easy process.

"With that being said I have decided to commit to the University of Colorado."

According to Adam Munsterteiger at 247Sports, Smith had been a silent commit for the Buffs since mid-September and decided to wait to make his decision public.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pounder took his official visit to Colorado on Oct. 1 for the game against the USC Trojans.

Smith had reported offers on his 247Sports profile from Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ole Miss and Arizona State, among many others. Although it is unclear how many of those were committable at this point in his recruitment.

The future Buff has racked up 34 tackles including four tackles for loss and a sack during his senior season for Buford.

He is ranked as the No. 596 player in the country regardless of position on the 247Sports composite rankings-making him the second-highest ranked commit on CU's commit list behind safety Dylan Dixson.

Smith is ranked as the No. 17 inside linebacker in the country according to Rivals.

He is teammates with CU running back commit Victor Venn. Colorado had success recruiting Georgia during the Mel Tucker year and some of that has continued despite him leaving.

The Buffs now sit at No. 4 in the Pac-12 for the 2022 recruiting class. Although, they have more commits than some of the schools behind them which typically means that others such as UCLA and USC will likely catch them.
