"Our heart and prayers go out to the family members that they lost those two people this weekend," Highland Village Fire Department Chief Michael Thompson said in a statement, according to Fox 4 News. "Unfortunately, Lake Lewisville is known for being a fairly dangerous lake."

A native of Lancaster, Texas, Hill spent three years (2009-12) at Vanderbilt where she specialized in both the 200-meter run and 400.

Broom, a teacher working in Dallas, was 28.

During her time with the Commodores, Hill ran 24.48 seconds in the outdoor 200 at the Ole Miss Invitational in 2009, which is 10th fastest in school history. Hill also ran a 55.01 in the outdoor 400 in 2009 which is sixth all-time. In her freshman season she finished in the top 10 four out of five indoor meets and is ninth all-time in 400 in 55.73.

Following her track career, Hill earned her law degree from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University.

Hill worked as an intern for the NAACP before becoming a trial attorney for Ben & Abbott Associates in Garland, Texas. She most recently worked as an associate attorney at The Bassett Firm in the Dallas area.
