Chris Johnson, LenDale White weigh in on new Tennessee Titans running back Tony Pollard: 'Perfect fit'

Tony Pollard signed with the Tennessee Titans this offseason, and plenty of Titans fans are excited to see the former Memphis football star in action with his home state team.

That group includes a pair of running backs who know the Titans well: Chris Johnson and LenDale White.

"He's pretty good," Johnson said. "His years in Dallas, he was out there doing some good things, especially when he teamed up with (Ezekiel Elliott). The type of offense that I think Tennessee is turning out to me, I think he'll be a perfect fit. A guy that can run the ball, a guy that can help you in the pass game. I think it'll be a good fit for the Titans offense."

Johnson and White spoke at an NFL Alumni Association event on Wednesday at the National Civil Rights Museum. The event also featured former Titans/Oilers players Al Smith, Brad Hopkins and Jevon Kearse.

White, who played for the Titans from 2006-09 and rushed for 1,110 yards in 2007, said he's interested to see what role Pollard plays this season.

"I like TP," White said. "I hope it doesn't go the wrong way. I like TP in a role where he's not the every down back, but where they use him β€” I know with (Tyjae) Spears, the 1-2 head with that will be unreal. I love Tony Pollard. What he did with the Cowboys is unreal. I feel like maybe a change of scenery is always good. I can't wait to see what he does with us, honestly."

Pollard signed with the Titans after spending the first five seasons of his NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys. He's coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Titans in March. A Melrose High School graduate, Pollard was with the Tigers from 2015-18 and was an All-American in 2017.

Now he'll help replace Derrick Henry, who signed with the Ravens this offseason.

"He's definitely cold, man," White said. "What's crazy about the Titans is we always find a way to get a really good running back."

Johnson starred for the Titans from 2008-13 and had one of the greatest individual seasons by a running back in NFL history when he rushed for 2,006 yards in 2009. He said he's excited to see Pollard in a Titans uniform. But he wants to see it before he adds Pollard to the list of illustrious Titans backs.

"We've got to see what he does first," he said. "Just can't put him up there with us yet. He hasn't played a down for us, yet."
