First round recap: Zach Edey picked No. 9, Kel'el Ware No. 15 in 2024 NBA Draft

Who would you want to select for the future: Purdue basketball's Zach Edey or Indiana basketball's Kel'el Ware? Both expect to hear their names called in tonight's first round of the 2024 NBA Draft.

Edey, the two-time National Player of the Year for the Boilermakers, rose from fringe prospect to the No. 9 overall pick by the Memphis Grizzlies. Evaluators like Edey's shooting touch near the basket and rebounding ability, and he showed decent 3-point shooting touch at the NBA Scouting Combine. The biggest concern is a lack of speed that could be exposed on defense as teams pick-and-roll to create mismatches.

Ware made a big leap in his one IU season, showing a versatile offensive game, a shot-blocking presence and staying engaged to become an All-Big Ten performer. The biggest question for the Miami Heat, who picked 15th overall: Will a team want him to contribute immediately or take time to develop?
