Freeman rewards fantasy owners again

  • Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew goes down with ankle injury
  • Titans RB Chris Johnson dominates the Bills again
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman (5) runs for a first down against the New Orleans Saints in Week 7 action.

Aerial attacks were in prime form in Week 7, and a couple big-name running backs shined.

Josh Freeman carved up the New Orleans Saints' secondary to the tune of 420 yards and three touchdowns. Vincent Jackson was his favorite target; he went for 216 yards and a visit to the end zone. Freeman has thrown for three TDs and over 300 yards in back-to-back weeks.

On the other side of the ball, Drew Brees also had 300-plus yards passing and four TDs. With Jimmy Graham out, Brees spread the ball around, tossing touchdown strikes to Marques Colston, Darren Sproles, David Thomas and Joe Morgan. Lance Moore benefitted with an eight-catch, 119-yard game.

Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay exploited St. Louis' secondary, with Rodgers airing it out for 342 yards and three touchdowns. With Greg Jennings still out with a groin ailment, Jordy Nelson stepped up with 122 yards and a score. Green Bay isn't completely ignoring the running game, though. Alex Green had 20 carries but only ran for 35 yards on the ground.

Eli Manning opened up it against a soft Washington Redskins secondary, and he finished with a 26-337-1 line in the victory. He spread the pigskin around effectively, but Victor Cruz was the most efficient with seven catches, 131 yards and a TD. Hakeem Nicks, in his return from injury, caught five balls for 53 yards.

Robert Griffin III continues to impress in his rookie voyage. Other than a costly interception and fumble, he looked impressive again with 258 yards and two touchdowns. Fred Davis left the game early with what appears to be a season-ending Achilles' injury. Leonard Hankerson and Santana Moss became more involved as a result, and they should both, along with Joshua Morgan, see their value increase if Pierre Garcon (foot) struggles to return from injury. Moss had just three catches for 67 yards, but two of those receptions led to points.

Mark Sanchez had one of his best showings this year in an overtime loss to the New England Patriots, throwing for over 300 yards and a touchdown. Jeremy Kerley (7-120-0) continues to be one of his favorite targets, but Dustin Keller is emerging as a reliable tight end as he regains full health. Keller hauled in seven catches for 93 yards and a touchdown.

After a slow start, the Houston Texans have made it a point to get Andre Johnson involved, and it's shown the last two weeks. In their blowout win over the Baltimore Ravens, Johnson had nine grabs for 86 yards. He didn't find the end zone, but his increased involvement in the passing game looks like it'll continue.

Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans had no problems running the ball against a shoddy Buffalo Bills defense. Chris Johnson looked like the CJ2K of old, running 18 times for 195 yards and two scores, and Jamie Harper added two short touchdown runs himself. Although it was a tasty matchup for Johnson, this should remind you he's still explosive and shouldn't be benched.

The sore ankle that limited Adrian Peterson in practice this week was a non-issue against the Arizona Cardinals. Minnesota clearly didn't want to overwork their stud running back with a short week coming next week. He ran for 153 yards and two scores.

In Cleveland, Trent Richardson's sore ribs clearly affected his performance against the Indianapolis Colts. The rook only had eight carries for eight yards. The Browns were pass-heavy again in the loss; Montario Hardesty had only seven totes for 28 yards. Richardson's injury is worth monitoring, and Hardesty is a priority addition if he's still available in any leagues.

Maurice Jones-Drew owners cringed after seeing him carted off the field after his second carry of the game with a left foot injury. He did not return and was seen on the sidelines on crutches and in a walking boot. Rashad Jennings, who will be a necessary waiver addition for running back seekers and MJD handcuffers, filled in for 21 rushes, 44 yards and a touchdown.
