Seahawks' Wilson, Packers' Starks could help teams in playoffs

Herija C. Green, USA TODAY Sports
Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson had perhaps his best game of the season in Week 13, throwing for 293 yards and two touchdowns in a win at Chicago.
  • QB Russell Wilson doesn't look like a rookie anymore with 9 TDs and no picks in his last 4 games
  • James Starks is getting consistent carries now that the Packers seem to be running the ball more
  • TE Jacob Tamme finally seems to be finding the chemistry he had with QB Peyton Manning in Indy

If your fantasy leagues still allow teams to pick up players during the playoffs, there are still some players out there who could fill some important holes -- even in lineups of teams with championship dreams.

Priority additions

The following players should be high on your radar and are worthy of being added immediately to your fantasy football team.

Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (53%)

The rookie just continues to impress. He matched his career high with 293 passing yards in an overtime win against the Chicago Bears in Week 13 and threw for two scores, giving him nine touchdowns and zero interceptions in his last four games. He also established a new high-water mark in rushing yards (71) for the third consecutive week.
An emerging dual threat, Wilson has become a legitimate weekly starting option and should be owned in all formats.

James Starks, Green Bay Packers (58%)

Starks carried the ball 15 times for 66 yards and a touchdown in Week 13, his first rushing score since Week 1 of 2011. That's three times in the last four weeks that Starks has run for 60-plus yards, and while he has been short on big plays, it's clear the Packers want to alleviate some pressure off of Aaron Rodgers by running the ball. Consider the relatively fresh Starks as a decent addition for your fantasy playoff run.

Jacob Tamme, Denver Broncos (61%)

Although it took some time, the chemistry that Tamme and Peyton Manning showed at times in Indianapolis seems to be re-emerging in Denver. In the last three weeks, Tamme has been targeted 25 times, resulting in 17 receptions, 190 yards and a touchdown. Look his way if you need help at the position.

Connor Barth, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (35%)

Make it back-to-back 11-point performances for Barth, who has attempted multiple field goals in six straight games. During that stretch he has posted double digits four times, and only once was he not given the opportunity to reach that number. The Bucs offense is legit, and the fact that they have no remaining games in cold climates is another selling point.

Look to acquire

The following players will have greater significance in deep fantasy football leagues. In shallow fantasy football leagues, they are not as high of a priority but should be considered based on your fantasy football team's needs.

Justin Forsett and Ben Tate, Houston Texans (95%, 43%)

Believe it or not, the Texans are already on the cusp of wrapping up home-field advantage. Once that happens, look for them to lean on the combination of Forsett and Tate to help Arian Foster rest up for the playoffs. Forsett seems like the smarter addition - he has 210 rushing yards over the past three weeks - but Tate saw action on Sunday for the first time since Week 7 and is the more accomplished player.

If you've got roster space you can add one of them now. Otherwise, keep an eye on the situation and be ready to pounce.

Chris Givens, St. Louis Rams (77%)

With Danny Amendola (foot) injured, Givens stepped in and was Sam Bradford's target of choice. It was a role change for the big-play threat, whose longest catch was just 16 yards, but it marked his sixth fantasy relevant performance in seven games. He may have seen twice as many targets with Amendola out, but the big picture with Givens is that he continues to find ways to produce.

Josh Gordon, Cleveland Browns (39%)

Gordon has caught a pass longer than 20 yards in eight straight games, and he found the end zone for the first time since Oct. 21 courtesy of a 44-yard bomb from Brandon Weeden in Week 13. There are plenty of encouraging signs with Gordon, who has 15 grabs in his last three contests after not catching more than three in a game prior to that, and he's someone to consider.

St. Louis Rams defense/special teams (66%)

The Rams have been an opportunistic bunch recently, forcing five turnovers and taking three of them to the house over the past two weeks. They're not getting a ton of pressure (five sacks in that same timeframe), but they do have a pair of appealing matchups on tap. In Week 14 they take on the Buffalo Bills, and then the following week they host the Minnesota Vikings. This group is making plays, and they hold some appeal as a result.
