MLS playoff game delayed due to field painting error

The Montreal Impact were set to host Toronto FC for the MLS Eastern Conference Championship on Tuesday, but 66,000 fans showed up to literally watch paint dry.

The Impact typically play at the 21,000-seat Saputo Stadium, but for this highly anticipated contest, the club moved the game to the 66,000-seat Olympic Stadium. When the officials arrived, they noticed a major issue with the 18-yard box lines.

It was painted to incorrect measurements.

Groundskeepers had to repaint the field, causing nearly a 40-minute delay.

Olympic Stadium has hosted major soccer matches before. It was home to the Women's World Cup and CONCACAF Champions League, but according to the ESPN broadcast, this match was given a different surface - the old, highly criticized turf.

Impact owner Joey Saputo released a statement, expressing his embarrassment for the blunder. He also put some blame on tardy officials for causing the delay.
