Giannis Antetokounmpo jokes about ASG votes

He knows his last name is tough to spell.

The Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo has a last name that's tough to say and spell, and he knows it. When reporters asked him if he's impressed with how many fans are actually spelling it right for All-Star Game voting, he replied, while smiling:

"Imagine how many votes didn't count … I'd have a million votes if everybody could spell my name right."

With a million votes, Antetokounmpo would be beating LeBron James right now (!), though he was probably just joking around. Plus, according to ESPN's Michele Steele, some misspellings are apparently being counted, but, as she adds, if you want to vote for Antetokounmpo, it's safest to just use his Twitter handle.

In the NBA's first round of All-Star voting results, Antetokounmpo has the second-most amount of votes out of all Eastern Conference frontcourt players.

Two other things I'd like to note:

  • This year fans will only make up 50% of vote, while players and select media member votes will count for the other half.
  • Many, many, many other NBA players have their names spelled wrong by fans.

Lastly, here's an easy way to remember how to spell Antetokounmpo: just split it up into parts when you say it in your head (Ant-eto-koun-mpo). You can do it. I believe in you.
