Drake says he’s hosting NBA Awards

Kentucky coach John Calipari had his good friend Drake as a guest on his fairly new podcast, and the rapper dropped some news about an NBA-related project that's coming up.

Around the 30:30 mark, Drake, who's basically an NBA player, said he's going to be "producing and hosting the first annual NBA Awards this year," and that it'll sort of be like the time he hosted the ESPYS.

He then went on to explain that he hopes to one day be a late night talk show host who has as much success as Johnny Carson. A transcription of his comments about the NBA award show and how he wants to be like Carson is below.

Drake says to Calipari:

"I don't even know if I'm allowed to say this yet, we'll find out … I'm actually producing and hosting the first annual NBA Awards this year. Yeah, I pray you can came come too because it's only right. I get to take the reins on it, again the ESPYS let me do great things, and I thank them a lot for that, usually awards shows are sometimes a bit restricted, but they let me do a lot at the ESPYS. We'll just expand on that concept.

"I love hosting. I love being in a room full of just iconic, legendary people that I look up to, and having that pressure to make them laugh, and enjoy their evening, so hopefully that'll go well."

Drake continues:

"My end goal, crazy enough, another person I really look up to and a point in time that I miss is Johnny Carson and just the appeal of that sexy late night TV that's funny. As I continue along this journey, I hope to get there one day, as well, where I get to just put on amazing suits each night."

Both Drake and Calipari call each other icons in the hour-long podcast that you can listen to in full above. They also talk about when they first became friends years ago. Drake says people who call him a bandwagoner for rooting for Kentucky just don't understand.
