10 best snow games in sports history
A massive snow storm is battering the eastern seaboard of the United States today, and with tons of people stuck home from work and school, we thought we'd take a moment to look back at some of the best snow moments in sports history. Sports are more fun when the weather is a mess, and these games capture that.
For the purposes of this list, we are excluding sports that are played on snow and ice, so snowboarding, skiing, moguls, bobsledding, figure skating, and hockey are all out. Sorry, gang.

10. Bills vs. Browns 2007
This game will always stick out as a perfect snow football game because of just how miserable it was. The Browns won 8-0, the game had to be stopped multiple times to shovel the lines on the field, and every single fan in attendance looked miserable. Perfect.

9. Orioles Opening Day 2003
The combination of the excitement and pageantry of Opening Day combined with the backdrop of gently falling snow made the Orioles' game against the Indians an instant Camden Yards classic. Plus it gave us this iconic play:
8. 2000 Independence Bowl
A freak snowstorm in Louisiana for a bowl game between Texas A&M and Mississippi State is as wonderful as you think it is. Even better? The Bulldogs won 43-41 in an overtime thriller.
7. The 1979 Cotton Bowl
Notre Dame, helmed by Joe Montana, took on the University of Houston in an absolutely frigid Cotton Bowl played in 1979. The game earned the moniker The Chicken Soup Game, as it was played during the worst ice storm in Dallas in years. The match was more than just bad weather, though, as Montana led the Fighting Irish to an exciting 35-34 win.
6. The 2014 Winter Classic
Ok in the intro we said no ice hockey, but we're making an exception for the 2014 Winter Classic, which gave us the glorious site of ice hockey being played on HD television with fat snowflakes falling on the Big House in Michigan.
5. The Leon Lett Game
Poor Leon Lett. His Thanksgiving day blunder against the Miami Dolphins gave the Cowboys one of the more iconic losses of the franchise's history.
4. U.S. beats Costa Rica in a snow storm
Qualifying for the World Cup is something no American soccer fan takes for granted anymore. This match helped them do so in the run up to the 2014 World Cup, and what a match it was - played in a snowstorm in Denver, and resulting in a 1-0 USMNT win.
3. 1967 NFL Championship: The Ice Bowl
The 1967 NFL Championship Game was more ice than snow, but we're going to include it here because those guys looked pretty cold and we'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The Green Bay Packers played the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field in sub-zero temperatures, with the Packers winning 21-17 and claiming The Ice Bowl.
2. Michigan vs. Ohio State 1950
We move from The Ice Bowl to The Snow Bowl. The game between Michigan and Ohio State in a driving snow storm ended with Michigan winning 9-3 and claiming the Big Ten Championship, and a spot in the Rose Bowl.
1. The Tuck Rule / Vinatieri game
How else could it end? The 2001 AFC Divisional Playoff Game gave us the introduction of the "tuck rule" into the lexicon of even casual sports fans, the first iconic Adam Vinatieri game-winning kick, and the launch of the Patriots NFL dynasty. If this game goes differently, who knows if the Patriots even become who they become?
