Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is auctioning off four NBA title rings for a pretty cool reason

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is auctioning off four of the NBA championship rings he won with the Los Angeles Lakers, among a host of other special artifacts from his legendary NBA career.

In a blog post, Abdul-Jabbar said he is auctioning the memorabilia not because he has money issues but rather to help kids through his Skyhook Foundation.

The NBA all-time leading scorer's charity helps kids learn more about science, technology, engineering and math and he's more than happy to say goodbye to some special things from his past to help more kids.

"When it comes to choosing between storing a championship ring or trophy in a room, or providing kids with an opportunity to change their lives, the choice is pretty simple. Sell it all," Abdul-Jabbar wrote in the blog post.

"Looking back on what I have done with my life, instead of gazing at the sparkle of jewels or gold plating celebrating something I did a long time ago, I'd rather look into the delighted face of a child holding their first caterpillar and think about what I might be doing for their future.

"That's a history that has no price."

Bids on each of the championship rings — which are from the 1980, 1985, 1987 and 1988 seasons — had eclipsed $70,000 as of Wednesday morning.

Pretty cool stuff right there from one of the best players in NBA history.
