Boston Red Sox

So it looks like Chris Sale and the Boston Red Sox really do stink right now

The defending-champion Boston Red Sox currently, well, stink.

That's hard for me to say as I'm from Boston and root, root, root for the home team, but after Tuesday night's 8-0 loss to the hated New York Yankees (though hated is tough to say here since most of their lineup Tuesday night was a bunch of no-names and backups just trying to help out) it really looks like the 2019 Red Sox are in a lot of trouble.

I know my colleague Ted Berg would quickly point me to his catchy song about it being "Small Sample Size," but I don't know if that argument stands right now. Not after this loss in the Bronx. And especially after coming off an 8-1 loss to the stinky Orioles on Marathon Monday.

Because this loss to the Yankees, who have suffered injuries to just about everyone associated with the team, was an ugly one that dropped the Red Sox to 6-12. That's just two more wins than the Marlins, who have a league-worst four wins and are a team that always stink.

Let's look at how bad things are for the Red Sox after this one, though.

We'll start with the starting pitching, which saw ace Chris Sale have another brutal game Tuesday night:

Yup, that stinks.

Sale agreed, saying after:

They even gave up a home run to some guy named Mike Tauchman, which was his first home run in this three-year career:

That stinks.

Mookie Betts is the reigning AL MVP, but right now he stinks:

It was so bad that Yankees fans were making fun of the Red Sox for losing to their own bad team:

That definitely stinks.

And yup, Red Sox fans are panicking:

So yeah, right now the Red Sox definitely do stink.

And they might stink for a while.
