Russell Wilson's historic start is ridiculous

For The Win

This is the Morning Win, by Andy Nesbitt.

The past two NFL MVPs will square off Monday when Lamar Jackson and the Ravens play host to Patrick Mahomes and the defending-champion Chiefs.

You're going to hear a lot today about how Mahomes and Jackson are the future of the NFL and two of the best QBs we've seen in quite some time. All that talk will be both fair and accurate, considering what they've both done in their young careers.

But the best QB in football right now will not be on the field Monday night. He played Sunday and threw five more touchdown passes in a win.

That man, is Russell Wilson.

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

The Seahawks' QB is off to a historic start as his 14 TD passes is the most through a team's first three games of the season, a record that used to be held by Mahomes. He could have even had a sixth TD pass in Sunday's win over the Cowboys if D.K. Metcalf didn't have a brain fart near the goal line.

Russell is now 31 years old, which seems ancient compared to Mahomes and Jackson. But right now he's still in his prime (QBs seem to have a really long prime these days) and he's playing for a team that is probably the No. 1 team in the NFL right now.

Wilson was his usual electric self in Sunday's win, as he led the Seahawks down the field in the final minutes and delivered a long TD pass to Metcalf that proved to the be the winner after the Cowboys crumbled in their final drive.

Wilson has never won a MVP award during a career in which he's been to two Super Bowls and has won one. This could be finally be his year, though, as he's on pace to throw 75 TD passes, which would easily be a record.

So while you hear the praises of Mahomes and Jackson being sung today, don't forget about the "old" guy in the Pacific Northwest.

Because right now he's on an absolute tear and I don't see him slowing down at all this season.

NFL Week 3 Awards: Tony Pollard had the most dreadful kick return.

Screengrab

Here's my look back at t he good, the bad, and the hilarious from Sunday's action, including a horrific kick return by Dallas' Tony Pollard, which proved to be a costly mistake in the Cowboys' loss.

- Injured Saints WR Michael Thomas shared his disdain for the officiating during Sunday night's Packers-Saints game.

- The Falcons had another embarrassing collapse on Sunday and NFL fans crushed head coach Dan Quinn.

- The Eagles should be embarrassed for what they did at the end of their tie with the Bengals.

- The Chargers came ridiculously close to pulling off a game-winning hook-and-ladder play.

- Kyler Murray continues to be must-see TV.
