Super Bowl loss is only going to make Patrick Mahomes more ridiculous

This is the Morning Win, by Andy Nesbitt.

Patrick Mahomes was 25-1 in his last 26 starts going into Super Bowl 55, which was ridiculous.

Now, of course, heā€™s 25-2 in his last 27 starts as the Chiefs got destroyed by Tom Brady and the Bucs, 31-9, in Tampa. That was the first time in Mahomesā€™ NFL career that he lost a game by more than one possession, which is just silly.

But you know what? As crushing as that loss was, Mahomes is likely only going to use it as more fire to get even better and become even more ridiculously good at football, which is bad news for the rest of the NFL.

Mahomes is already the best QB in the league. Itā€™s really not even close. He can do things others simply cannot and he does it all in such an effortless style that can leave your jaw on the ground.

Remember that incomplete pass he had Sunday night? The one he flung about 30 yards while falling to the ground? Sure, it fell incomplete but it was a catchable ball and should have been a TD. In fact, his two best passes against the Bucs should have been caught.

So now Mahomes has suffered the biggest loss of his NFL career and now we get to see how he responds to such a crushing defeat. Remember, a majority of us thought he and the Chiefs would be back-to-back champs right now.

Instead, Mahomes lost to Tom Brady again and now has many months between games to think about what happened in Tampa and to put in the work to make sure it doesnā€™t happen again.

Mahomes thus far has appeared to be built like the great ones in sports, the ones who only learn from early losses in their career and come back even stronger from them. The ones who use those losses to become all-time greats.

Mahomes is already guaranteed to make a ton of money in his career but his gigantic contract isnā€™t something heā€™s going to be thinking about when heā€™s going off in workouts this offseason. Money doesnā€™t seem to be something that drives him. Winning does. Being the best does. Being the most dominant does.

And weā€™re all about to see that firsthand as he regroups and refocuses on making another championship run in 2021.

When all is said and done with Mahomesā€™ career, which should include a bunch of Super Bowl appearances and wins, weā€™ll probably look back at last Sunday night in Tampa as the night that changed Mahomes and the NFL forever.

Buckle up.
