The NFL got it wrong with that wild Patrick Mahomes play but it's OK

For The Win

This is the Morning Win by Andy Nesbitt.

I want to start this off by saying I firmly believe that Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL and is easily the most fun player to watch, as well.

He's awesome and will win a bunch of Super Bowls and MVP awards over the next 20 years or so and I look forward to watching a ton of those games and being highly entertained by No. 15.

But the NFL got it wrong by including his memorable play in Super Bowl 55 in their list of top 100 plays of the season.

Why did the league get it wrong?

NFL STATS CENTRAL: The latest NFL scores, schedules, odds, stats and more.

Because it didn't belong in there. Duh!

Listen, this isn't serious business and I'm not going to lose any sleep about this play being in some goofy rankings by a league that is looking to engage with fans during the quiet first few weeks of the offseason. I'm working that same angle right now so I respect the hustle by the league. Putting this play at No. 100 is a smart marketing move.

As for the play itself, I thought it was incredible that Mahomes was able to throw the pass that he threw late in the fourth quarter against the Bucs. I was in awe when they showed the highlight after the play and I watched it a bunch more times in the days after the game.

But you know what? The pass fell incomplete and the Chiefs turned the ball over on downs.

Was it cool to watch? Yes, we can all agree on that.

But come on, it was an incompletion! You're telling me of the 1000s of plays this season an incomplete pass on a fourth down was one of the top 100?

No, no it wasn't.

Nice job, though, NFL. You got me and others talking about you during a quiet sports week in February, so I tip my cap to you.

Well played.
