FOR THE WIN

The Buffalo Sabres hit a new embarrassing low Monday night

This is the Morning Win, by Andy Nesbitt.

Last week I wrote a Morning Win about the struggling Buffalo Sabres and their sad losing streak, which stood at 16 games back then after their GM had to jump behind the bench and coach a game.

I wrote about trying to speak a win into existence for them because losing that many games in a row just isnā€™t good for you, no matter what level youā€™re playing at.

Since then I have failed the Buffalo Sabres. Big time. I have brought them no joy. I have brought them nothing to celebrate. I have brought them no hope.

Last night, though, the Sabres and their fans actually had a ton of hopeā€¦ for two periods. Losers of 17 straight, Buffalo had a 3-0 lead on the Flyers after 40 minutes of play and things looked good for them. Heck, things looked GREAT for them.

Things looked so good that I texted my uncle, who grew up in Buffalo and loves the Sabres, that his team was up 3-0 heading into the third and the streak was finally going to end. Making things even better for my uncle is that yesterday was his first grandsonā€™s first birthday. What better way to top off such a special day than by watching your team snap a 17-game skid?

I mean, come on!

So what happened? The Sabres gave up three goals in the third and then lost in overtime after giving up this pretty goal.

What a gigantic UGH for my uncle and anyone else who cheers for the Sabres.

The streak is now at 18 and I donā€™t know how you come back from what happened Monday night. I have no clue what a coach says there. I donā€™t know how players even make the drive to the practice facility the next day. I have no answers about anything.

They are pros, though, so they will figure out a way to give it a go again and try to get something that they havenā€™t experienced since February 25th ā€“ a win.

But man, this all has to be a brutal time for Buffalo. And my uncle.
