Presidents Day should become a floating holiday after NFL makes 17-game season official
This is the Morning Win, by Andy Nesbitt.
For years Iāve told just about everyone I know (and lots of people that I donāt know) that the Super Bowl should be played on Saturday night. Itās the hill Iāve gladly decided to die on and Iāll bring it up year after year until the NFL finally does the right thing.
There are many good reasons behind that argument, but the main takeaway is that it would be nice to have a day off after the game to recover from a festive time while watching the game.
Well, now weāre occasionally going to get that day off after Super Bowls as NFL owners voted Tuesday to extend the regular season to 17 games. That means the playoffs are going to get pushed back a week and the Super Bowl will occasionally fall on Presidents Day weekend.
While thatās great and all, why donāt we now do the right thing and just make Presidents Day a floating holiday and make it the Monday after every Super Bowl?

Makes just too much sense, right?
Presidents Day is currently the third Monday of February and that date is different each year, so itās not like weāre married to any specific date.
The day was created to celebrate the birthdays of George Washington (he was born on February 22) and Abraham Lincoln (he was born on February 12). I have to think those two guys would be OK with the date moving around a bit in order to make things easier for their fellow Americans, though I donāt think they would understand football. Or the Internet. Or cars. Or planes.
But whatever, I think those two presidents would be down to help us all out, even if that means moving their special day around.
The Super Bowl wonāt fall on Presidents Day weekend as often as weād like for it to happen, which makes this idea even more brilliant. This is where we should step in and just make it happen.
And letās be honest ā nobody really cares when Presidents Day is and nobody would be bothered if it moved around a bit. Chances are you always forget about the holiday until the night before, anyways.
This country loves football. This country loves days off from work. Letās combine two of our biggest loves and make this happen.
And then letās cancel daylight savings time, too.
