Bryson DeChambeau is in way over his head with golf fans

This is the Morning Win, by Andy Nesbitt.

Bryson DeChambeau is one of the most polarizing players in golf that we've seen in quite some time and on Sunday things didn't go well for him at all again - both on and off the course.

The big-bombing scientist with an unquenchable thirst for protein shakes lost the BMW Championship after a six-hole playoff to Patrick Cantlay in which DeChambeau had a few chances to win it. He pulled off some great shots during the playoff (including an all-world par after a tee shot on 18 found the creek) but missed a few very makable putts, including a short birdie attempt that didn't fall on the sixth and final playoff hole.

DeChambeau angrily walked off the course and headed to the scorer's tent. He was frustrated over what had just happened on the course and then, according to ESPN's Kevin Van Valkenburg, he got heckled again by a fan who yelled out "Great job Brooksie!"

Ugh.

That, according to Van Valkenburg, led to DeChambeau yelling a F-bomb at the fan and almost led to what could have been a very ugly scene. Instead, DeChambeau asked the police to help with the situation and thankfully went on his way.

While that one situation was left in the past, many more situations like that are sadly going to happen in the future - golf fans are going to keep up with the "Brooksie" stuff for a very, very long time and it's going to drive DeChambeau crazy, it seems. He's in way over his head with this situation and it's going to be that way for quite some time.

This all stems from the feud between DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, which started out fun but then took a bad turn when Koepka awarded beers to fans who were kicked out of a tournament for heckling DeChambeau. That basically opened the floodgates for this "Brooksie" nonsense, which is something DeChambeau hears multiple times during every round he plays now.

A few weeks ago I suggested that DeChambeau should put an end to to this with a public statement saying his beef with Koepka was over and they should move on. I was wrong, though. Koepka should have been the one to come out and call it over and tell everyone to chill out with the heckles.

Koepka has been quiet about all of this recently but it doesn't matter anymore. Any statement he would make now about it would be worthless - this Brooksie stuff is here to stay no matter what Koepka could say and it's just not cool.

You don't have to like DeChambeau, I get it. There are many things he does that annoys golf fans - from his notorious slow play to him asking Cantlay to stop walking before hit a shot on Sunday - he routinely does things that bother golf fans and causes them not to root for him. Not rooting for him is fine, too. That's what sports are all about.

But this Brooksie stuff is just so stupid and is likely just powered by some fans who have been enjoying themselves a little too much at the course and think it will make their friends laugh.

DeChambeau certainly isn't laughing and it feels like he's not going to be for quite some time.
