It's time for Russell Wilson and the Seahawks to break up

This is The Morning Win. Charles Curtis is filling in for Andy Nesbitt.
Hereās a pretty wild fact: This is the first time in Russell Wilsonās storied 10-year career that his Seattle Seahawks will finish with a losing record.
What a run. And after a rough loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday night, it might be a run that has to end this offseason.
No, one losing season in 10 years isnāt a reason to break up one of the more successful marriages in this generation of the NFL.
But thereās the fact that Wilson hasnāt been the game-changer he usually is this season. A finger injury didnāt help, and maybe, as our Charles McDonald wrote last month, he was rushed back from that. And it was just this past offseason in which rumblings of Wilsonās discontent with the franchise got very loud ā the QB did talk about his frustrations over getting hit too much, and heās been sacked 29 times in 11 games in 2021.

In other words, it might be time for a change in scenery for him. And for the Seahawks? Despite a down year, heās 33. If this is the beginning of a decline, thereās no better time to trade him to a QB-hungry team willing to give up a few first-rounders.
Yeah, itās a bummer in Seattle if that does happen. But he brought a title to the city, followed by a near-second ring the very next year. The Seahawks have missed the playoffs just once with Wilson on the roster and may again this year. Sometimes, breakups just need to happen.
And it might be the right move for both sides.
