DETROIT – Miguel Cabrera received an actual crown to go along with his Triple Crown and joined Buster Posey in being named winners of the annual Hank Aaron Awards.

The awards go to the best overall hitters in the American and National Leagues, and Cabrera and Posey were the first pairing in the 14-year history of the honor to win it while participating in the World Series.

"I'm very proud, my biggest day here in baseball," Cabrera said of the crown and award.

Cabrera helped the Detroit Tigers to the American League pennant by leading the league in batting average (.330), and the major leagues in home runs (44) and RBI (139).

Cabrera's Triple Crown is the first since 1967. Hall of Famer Frank Robinson, who won the AL Triple Crown in 1966, helped present the crown to Cabrera.

Posey, the San Francisco Giants catcher, posted a major league-best .336 average. He also led the league with a .408 on-base percentage.

"I'm humbled that Hank Aaron knows who I am," Posey said at the presentation ceremony. "Growing up in Georgia, he's a legend everywhere. It's a great honor."

Cabrera and Posey are the favorites to win the MVP Awards for their respective leagues when they are announced Nov. 14.

For the third year, a special panel of Baseball Hall of Famers – Tony Gwynn, Paul Molitor, Joe Morgan and Robin Yount – joined Aaron and baseball fans in voting for the award.
