Your one-stop spot for the latest rumors and rumblings from USA TODAY Sports and elsewhere:

  • As the meetings wind down, it appears the Los Angeles Angels have re-entered the Zack Greinke sweepstakes. Even after acquiring pitchers Joe Blanton and Tommy Hanson, the Angels appear to be in the thick of the bidding, according to USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale. The Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Dodgers are also possible destination spots for Greinke.
  • In dire need of a third baseman, the New York Yankees have offered Kevin Youkilis a one-year, $12 million deal, according to MLB's Bryan Hoch. On Tuesday, the Yankees failed to lure Eric Chavez, who signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and Jeff Keppinger, who signed with the Chicago White Sox. Youkilis is weighing several offers from multiple teams. The third baseman is coming off his worst season in the majors, batting .235 between the Boston Red Sox and White Sox. A career .283 hitter, Youkilis would fill in nicely until Alex Rodriguez came back from hip surgery late next season.
  • Reliever Jason Grilli, who is represented by former major leaguer Gary Sheffield, has a two-year offer from several teams -- the Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and San Francisco Giants, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.
  • The Josh Hamilton sweepstakes continue into the final day of the winter meetings. The Seattle Mariners have shown interest in the slugger. But Mariners president Chuck Armstrong says Seattle is not close to signing Hamilton, according to USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale.
  • The Philadelphia Phillies are in talks to acquire Michael Young from the Texas Rangers, according to Dallas Morning News' Evan Grant. But because he has 10-5 rights (10 years in the majors, the last five with the same club) Young has a complete no-trade clause and would have to agree to the deal. Young, who has played every position in the infield the last few years, is in his final year of his contract and is owed $16 million in 2013.
