Rangers SS Andrus has hernia surgery, Gallo hamstring strain

AP

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) β€” Texas Rangers shortstop Elvis Andrus underwent surgery Tuesday to repair a sports hernia.

The Rangers said in a statement that the timetable for recovery is about six weeks. Andrus is expected to resume normal offseason workouts after that, and be fully ready for spring training.

Andrus hit a career-high .302 this season for the AL West champion Rangers. The 28-year-old Andrus, who just completed his eighth season, is the team's longest-tenured player.

Infielder Joey Gallo was playing winter ball in Venezuela, but is now expected to be sidelined four to six weeks because of a strained left hamstring. He was examined in Texas on Monday by team physician Dr. Keith Meister.
