Phillies' Rhys Hoskins trolls Mets with casual stroll around bases after home run

He didn't charge the mound, but Rhys Hoskins got some revenge on Wednesday.

One night after Jacob Rhame nearly hit him high twice, Hoskins took the Mets reliever deep to give the Phillies a 6-0 lead, which would stand as the final score.

Hoskins certainly let the bomb sink in, taking a very slow trot around the bases. In fact, according to MLB.com Phillies writer Todd Zolecki, his 34.23-second trot was the longest this year and first to break the 30-second mark. It was also slower than pitcher Bartolo Colon's 30.5-second home run trot in 2016, according to MLB.com Mets writer Anthony DiComo.

"He got me. If I make a better pitch, he doesn't get to run the bases," Rhame told reporters after Thursday's game.

When asked if he was surprised it took Hoskins 34 seconds to round the bases, Rhame replied, "His job, man. He hit the bomb."

Hoskins had to be separated by Mets catcher Travis d'Arnaud and the umpire after nearly being hit twice Tuesday night. The incident nearly caused both benches to empty, and both Hoskins and manager Gabe Kapler were not shy about their displeasure after the game.

However, the Mets were not worried about any repercussions prior to Wednesday's game. Whether or not they take any shots back at Hoskins at some point this season now remains to be seen.

“A couple guys kind of said the phrase, 'Don’t poke the sleeping bear,' Hoskins told reporters. "And seemed to be that the last couple of innings was a pretty good indication that may have happened.”
