Astros' Carlos Correa claps back at White Sox reliever Ryan Tepera: 'Just state facts'

After the Houston Astros clinched the American League Division Series, one of their players called out a player on the team they had just dominated.

Astros shortstop Carlos Correa responded to a shot earlier in the week from Chicago White Sox reliever Ryan Tepera that referenced Houston's infamous sign stealing scandal from 2017.

"He said what he said," Correa said Tuesday afternoon in a postgame interview on the field. "I encouraged other players that when you're going to talk (expletive) about other teams, just state facts. If you don't state facts, then you lose credibility in this game. It's unfortunate that he had to say those words because we came out here hungry. We showed up."

The Astros advanced to the American League Championship Series Tuesday afternoon after topping Chicago 10-1. The Astros will face off against the Boston Red Sox for the chance to go to the World Series.

After the only Chicago victory of the series on Sunday night, Tepera took a shot at Houston, referencing the 2017 season in which Houston was found to have orchestrated a system to tip off batters when off-speed pitches would be thrown.

"They've had a reputation of doing some sketchy stuff over there," Tepera said. "We can say it's a little bit of a difference. I think you saw the swings and misses tonight compared to the first two games at Minute Maid."

The Astros outscored Chicago by a margin of 31-15 in the series. And while the only White Sox victory of the series did take place in Chicago's Guaranteed Rate Field, the 10 runs Houston scored in a decisive victory Tuesday night poke holes in Tepera's argument.

In a separate interview with FOX Sports, Correa called the comments "disrespectful."

Correa went 2-of-4, including a two-run double, and recorded 4 RBI Tuesday afternoon.

Houston will be playing in its fifth-consecutive ALCS. Game 1 is scheduled for Friday night and will take place in Houston.
