Mets pitcher Taijuan Walker allows 3 runs in wild blunder against Pirates

PITTSBURGH — Things are not going well for the Mets. 

In Sunday's game, three runs scored on Kevin Newman's dribbler down the third base line. Starting pitcher Taijuan Walker believed the ball to be foul, so he batted it toward the Pirates' dugout. 

It was fair. 

One run scored, then a second, then a third. It gave the Pirates a 6-0 lead.

When the runners were rounding the bases, Walker was arguing with home plate umpire Jeremy Riggs. He didn't even go pick up the ball. No one did.

At the end of the play, manager Luis Rojas went out of the dugout to argue with Riggs. He appeared to bump into Riggs. He was ejected. 

All of this occurred before the first inning even ended. 

The Mets rebounded to win the game, 7-6, to avoid a sweep.
