'I’m still learning:' Reds prospect Hunter Greene tops 102 mph in second Triple-A start

There were 4,739 fans at Louisville Slugger Field cheering on the Louisville Bats and also paying close attention to the pitching radar gun.

Just a week after throwing a 104.3 mile per hour fastball in his debut with the Louisville Bats, which was faster than any pitch thrown in Major League Baseball this season, Cincinnati Reds prospect Hunter Greene continued to throw fireballs in his home debut with the Bats Wednesday and collected his first Triple-A win over Indianapolis, 5-0.

“I felt great out there," Greene said after his night. “Had a great team behind me. Guys hit early, that’s always a good feeling. Gives you more confidence to go out there and mow the guys down.”

The fastest pitch of the night for the 21-year-old clocked in at 102 miles per hour. He also threw 101 once and 100 four times during the game.

He finished his day with five scoreless innings, six strikeouts and allowed just two hits on 85 pitches.

The focus for others is the speed, but Greene keeps the attention on adding plenty of variety to his pitches.

"I've been (throwing fast) since I was a junior in high school. To be honest, it's annoying," Greene admitted about being asked about it. "I know you guys are doing you job and part of reporting, but I could care less how hard I'm throwing. If I'm getting guys out from my off-speeds, that's great. You can't just get by in this game with a hard fastball. There's a lot I'm still learning. I think I'm doing really well keeping things in perspective and I'm rolling."

While Greene's time in Louisville will likely be short-lived as he'll get called up to the Reds in due time, he wants to make the most of his time here.

"Hopefully it's soon," he said about getting called up. "I want to feel ready when I get up there and be able to contribute to the team. A lot of great players up there. Obviously, I'm doing well but there's still things I got to work on and I'm doing them. I'm 21, I'm still trying to maneuver through this things and I feel I'm doing a good job, but just never trying to lose sight of a lot of things and stay focused."
