NYCFC unveils 1st uniform

NEW YORK (AP) β€” New York City FC, Major League Soccer's newest team, unveiled its first uniform on Thursday.

Striker David Villa fitted the bright blue jersey at a ceremony held in a concert hall in Manhattan. It is the same color scheme of Manchester City, the Premier League club that owns the team with the New York Yankees.

Villa, Spain's all-time goal scorer, was the first player signed by the expansion team that starts play next season at Yankee Stadium.

"I'm convinced that we will be a winning product from day one," Villa said.

Ahead of its first season, NYCFC also signed English midfielder Frank Lampard using a high-priced designated-player spot.

Claudio Reyna, the team's director of football, said they still expect to add a third designated player to the roster, currently with only six players.

The designated-player rule allows clubs to acquire up to three players whose salaries can significantly exceed their budgets.
