Badji goal gives Crew win over NYC

COMMERCE CITY, Colorado (AP) β€” Colorado's Dominique Badji scored his first goal of the season in the 82nd minute to help the Rapids beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1 on a snow-covered field Saturday and move within a point of the MLS Western Conference lead.

Jermaine Jones won the ball and Luis Solignac fed Badji, who rolled the ball across goalkeeper Luis Robles just inside the right post.

Ronand Zubar knocked in a header in the 60th minute to end the Red Bulls' scoreless streak of more than 4-1/2 matches. It was the team's first goal away from home this season, and the first time the Rapids had conceded on home turf.

Jones scored 21 minutes into his Colorado debut, rolling the ball in after a cross out of traffic from the goal line by Mekeil Williams.

SEATTLE 2, PHILADELPHIA 1

SEATTLE (AP) β€” Chad Marshall headed in a corner late in the first half and hometown rookie Jordan Morris scored his first career goal to help the Sounders beat Philadelphia.

The result lifted the Sounders out of the cellar in the West.

Marshall's second goal in two games came in the 41st minute. Andreas Ivanschitz floated a corner from the right across the 6-yard box and Marshall headed it in.

Morris made it 2-0 in the 71st minute.

Philadelphia, playing with 10 men after Roland Alberg was sent off in in the 53rd minute with his second yellow card, cut it to 2-1 on Sebastien LeToux's goal in the 73rd minute.

COLUMBUS 3, NEW YORK CITY 2

Columbus' Justin Meram had a goal and two assists as the Crew beat New York City for its first victory of the season.

Meram's second goal of the season came when he drove home a centering pass from Ethan Finlay in the 80th minute.

Meram had helpers on Finlay's first goal in the seventh minute and Kei Kamara's second in the 49th minute that gave the Crew (1-3-2) a 2-1 lead.

David Villa had tied it for New York City in the 18th minute when he headed a high cross from Andoni Iroala and added his fourth of the season with a penalty in the 87th minute.

NYC dropped to 1-2-3.

REAL SALT LAKE 1, VANCOUVER 0

SANDY, Utah (AP) β€” Playmaker Joao Plata set up Manuel Martinez for his first goal this season and Real Salt Lake beat Vancouver.

Plata has scored or assisted on eight of Salt Lake's 10 goals this season. He sliced through the Whitecaps' defense before rolling the ball to Martinez on his left. Martinez stopped it, crossed defender Kendall Watson and steered it past diving goalkeeper David Ousted.

Plata has four goals and four assists.

PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) β€” Fanendo Adi scored two second-half goals in Portland's victory over San Jose.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) β€” Ignacio Piatti scored from just outside the box in the first minute of stoppage time to lift Montreal past Chicago and sole possession of the Eastern Conference lead.

DC UNITED 0, TORONTO 1

WASHINGTON (AP) β€” Sebastian Giovinco's goal in the first minute stood up in Toronto's victory over DC United.
