'UFC 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez II' set for December

MMAJunkie.com staff
Cain Velasquez, left, and Junior Dos Santos will fight again for the heavyweight title at UFC 155 in December.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship's annual year-end card in Las Vegas is set for Dec. 29 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

The long-talked about event was made official by the UFC on Friday for the date and location that previously had been reported by MMAjunkie.com. Though the event number and date were known, the MGM Grand location had not been made formal until Friday, nor had the main event.

Headlining the card, as expected, is a title fight between heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos and ex-titleholder Cain Velasquez in the pay-per-view's main event.

The UFC announced Friday that former light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin, who was awaiting a replacement opponent with Chael Sonnen moving on to face Jon Jones, will meet Phil Davis, likely in the co-main event slot.

It's the UFC's fifth consecutive year-end event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The UFC holds its year-end cards as close to New Year's Eve as possible. However, depending on the calendar, the shows sometimes take place after the new year, as it did with UFC 125, which took place Jan. 1, 2011.

UFC 155 will be the 24th UFC event at MGM Grand Garden Arena, which most recently hosted "UFC 148: Silva vs. Sonnen II" on July 7.

The latest UFC 155 card includes:
-- Champ Junior Dos Santos vs. Cain Velasquez - for heavyweight title
-- Phil Davis vs. Forrest Griffin
-- Tim Boetsch vs. Chris Weidman
-- Joe Lauzon vs. Gray Maynard
-- Alan Belcher vs. Yushin Okami
-- Phil De Fries vs. Matt Mitrione
-- Chris Leben vs. Karlos Vemola
