DEERFIELD, Ill.--What's Derrick Rose scared of?

As of now in his rehabbing process for a torn ACL, he's most scared of doing something that used to come easy: cutting.

Rose told reporters that once he can get to a point where he's making cuts, he'll feel more confident in his return to the basketball court.

"Right now cutting is the hardest thing in the world," Rose said. "I'm scared of it. Right when I think I get that down, I'll be pretty close. Hopefully, it won't take a whole year."

While Rose is hoping that his recovery process comes sooner rather than later, with the NBA season tipping off in late October, he's learning patience and drawing inspiration from similar situations.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson made a speedy recovery after tearing his ACL in December.

When asked about Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson's speedy recovery to the football field from a torn ACL, Rose liked the comparison.

"It's exciting," Rose said. "I had a video game commercial shoot with him before the injury. To be that close to him and see how he takes everything from that one time to how he's doing now, it's exciting to me. I can't wait to get back on the court to see what I'm going to be able to do.

"Everyone's situation is different. Peterson came back quicker, and he's been playing great. The way I recover, it might take a little longer than his. You never know. I try to stay positive."

While Oct. 31 is the date the Chicago Bulls open their season against the Sacremento Kings, the real date fans have targeted is the tentative time frame when Rose makes his return.

Rose's return has been heavily promoted by Adidas with a bevy of commercials promoting his rehabbing process and the drive he has to return to the court with his teammates.

"He's right where we want him to be," Bulls general manager Gar Forman said.
