With the first seven days of the 2016-17 NBA season in the books, we take a look at the top five players from the opening week.

Russell Westbrook

Statistics (three games played) - Points: 38.7, assists: 11.7, rebounds: 12.3, steals: 1.0, field goal percentage: 45.3%, minutes: 38.3

Recap - No Kevin Durant? No problem. Westbrook has responded to the offseason departure of his running mate in as Westbrook a way as possible, breaking records and leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 3-0 start. Not only does he sit atop the NBA in scoring and assists, but he became the first player to record two triple-doubles in the first three games of a season since Magic Johnson in 1982 and became the first player to put together a 50-point triple-double (51 points, 10 assists, 13 rebounds) since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975.

Anthony Davis

Statistics (four games played) - Points: 37.0, rebounds: 13.0, assists: 2.5, blocks: 3.0, field goal percentage: 48.5%, minutes: 37.5

Recap - Davis came out of the starting gates on fire with a 50-point, 16-rebound performance on opening night. He added seven steals, five assists and four blocks, shot 17-of-34 from the field and made 16 of his 17 free throws. He followed that up with a 45-point, 17-rebound outing against the Golden State Warriors. He struggled slightly (18 points, five rebounds) against the San Antonio Spurs in his third game, but bounced back against the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night to the tune of 35 points, 15 rebounds and an impressive 17-of-18 from the free throw line.

James Harden

Statistics (four games played) - Points: 32.3, rebounds: 7.3, assists: 11.8, steals: 1.0, field goal percentage: 48.8%, minutes: 37.5

Recap - We knew that Harden was going to thrive in coach Mike D'Antoni's high-powered offense. But did we know it would be like this? He already has two 30-plus point games β€” 34 on opening night and 41 on Tuesday against the Cleveland Cavaliers β€” and two 10-plus assist games β€” 17 and 15, also on opening night and on Tuesday.

LeBron James

Statistics (four games played) - Points: 20.5, rebounds: 9.5, assists: 9.5, steals: 0.3, field goal percentage: 50%, minutes: 36.5

Recap - James hasn't scored at his usual rate to start the year, and quite frankly, he hasn't had to. He opened the season with a 19-point, 11-rebound, 14-assist triple-double and has put his prowess as a facilitator on full display while leading the defending champs to a 4-0 start.

Kevin Durant Q&A: No beef with Russell Westbrook

Kawhi Leonard

Statistics (five games played) - Points: 28.4, rebounds: 4.2, assists: 3.8, steals: 3.0, field goal percentage: 51.1%, minutes: 32.2

Recap - With his 35-point outing against the Warriors on opening night, Leonard officially got the ball rolling on a new era of Spurs basketball. Now that Tim Duncan is retired, the torch has been passed to Leonard, and he's responded beautifully thus far. The Spurs fell to 4-1 with a loss to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday, but have otherwise looked like the same Western Conference powerhouse that they've been for the past two decades.

Honorable mentions: Damian Lillard and DeMar DeRozan
