LeBron James hints at ownership of WNBA's Atlanta Dream

Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James hinted at obtaining ownership of the WNBA's Atlanta Dream in a tweet early Wednesday morning. 

James tweeted: "Think I’m gone put together an ownership group for the The Dream. Whose in? #BlackVotesMatter"

The Dream and the rest of the league have campaigned vigorously against Republican senator and Dream co-owner Kelly Loeffler, who has sparked significant backlash for comments this summer about the Black Lives Matter movement.

In July, she said: "I adamantly oppose the Black Lives Matter political movement, which has advocated for the defunding of police, called for the removal of Jesus from churches and the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbored anti-Semitic views, and promoted violence and destruction across the country."

Loeffler also sponsored a bill targeting transgender women and girl athletes that drew ire from many WNBA players. Tuesday marked the U.S. Senate runoff elections in Georgia, where Rev. Raphael Warnock is projected to defeat Loeffler and make history by becoming the first Black U.S. senator from Georgia.

James, an advocate against injustice and a key leader of the Black Lives Matter movement in the sports community, offered to put together an ownership group to purchase the team from Loeffler and her co-owner, Mary Brock. Despite pressure to sell her share in the team, Loeffler has refused. With his annual income at $39.22 million according to Forbes, James would be well positioned to purchase the franchise. 

Los Angeles Dodgers star Mookie Betts co-signed James' thoughts on putting together an ownership, tweeting "count me in."
