Celtics' Jayson Tatum to miss 10-14 days in quaratine; Wizards' Bradley Beal sits for contract tracing, per reports

USA TODAY Sports

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum has been placed in quarantine under the NBA's COVID-19 protocols and will not be available for 10 to 14 days, according to The Athletic.

On Friday, Tatum poured in 32 points in 35 minutes against the Washington Wizards.

Earlier that day, three Celtics β€” Tristan Thompson, Grant Williams and Robert Williams β€” were placed in a seven-day quarantine, leaving the Celtics with two frontcourt players in Boston's 116-107 victory.

Wizards star Bradley Beal, who scored 41 points in the loss to the Celtics, was ruled out of Saturday night's game against the Miami Heat due to health and safety protocols and contact tracing exposure to Tatum. The news was first reported by the The Athletic Saturday evening and later confirmed by the Wizards.

Celtics forward Jayson Tatum is headed to quarantine.

Beal had close contact with Tatum on the court following Friday's game. Earlier this week, Beal scored 60 points against the Philadelphia 76ers to tie the Washington single-game scoring record.

The 76ers were forced to play Saturday's game against the Denver Nuggets with only seven available players after Seth Curry tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday, and the ensuing contact tracing led to a slew of unavailable players. The Sixers fell to the Nuggets 115-103 as All-Stars Ben Simmons (sore left knee) and Joel Embiid (back) also sat due to injury.

Following Saturday's game against Miami, the Wizards host the Phoenix Suns on Jan. 11 and the Utah Jazz on Jan. 13. Philadelphia is scheduled to travel to Atlanta for a Jan. 11 game at the Hawks before returning home for back-to-back games against Miami on Jan. 12 and 13.

The Celtics are scheduled to play the Heat on Sunday, with games against the Bulls, Magic (twice, on Jan. 13 and Jan. 15), Knicks and 76ers (also twice, on Jan. 20 and 22) during the 10-to-14 day window Tatum will be absent.
