Brooklyn Nets' James Harden frisked, briefly detained by police in Paris, not arrested

Brooklyn Nets guard James Harden was stopped by police on Thursday in Paris but was not arrested or taken into custody, according to the city prosecutor's office. 

Harden was alongside rapper Lil Baby and a bodyguard on Thursday evening but not in the vehicle with them, French police officials told The Associated Press. The All-Star guard was frisked but not detained. Lil Baby's car was stopped after police smelled cannabis, and the rapper was brought into custody before being fined for transporting drugs on Thursday. He was released on Friday. 

Images shared on social media showed Harden with Lil Baby on one of the French capital's most elite avenues. He was in Paris for fashion week.

According to the Associated Press, police said they found more than 30 grams of cannabis, a substance that is illegal in France, in the car. The prosecutor's office said one other person was detained but that individual was not named. It is suspected to be the rapper's bodyguard. An investigation is underway. 

After his release, the rapper posted on Instagram “I’m Good” and said that was heading back to the U.S. USA TODAY has reached out to the Paris prosecutor's office, police and Lil Baby's rep for comment.
