Despite completing a pregame warmup and having extensive treatment on his strained left groin, Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis will miss Game 5 of the team's first-round series against the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, the Lakers announced.

Davis completed an on-court workout about an hour before tipoff. Markieff Morris is slated to start in Davis' place.

"It’s a medical decision," Lakers coach Frank Vogel said before knowing Davis' availability. "If they feel he’s at risk with injuring it any further, then obviously they won’t let him be out there. But if they feel like it’s just about managing pain and he’s not more at risk than any other player, then he’ll be cleared. It’s going to be a medical decision."

Davis injured his left groin after landing hard on the floor following a missed layup with 48.3 seconds left in the first half. Davis stayed on the court in pain before eventually standing up without assistance. After hunching over in pain underneath the Suns’ basket, Davis then walked slowly toward the Lakers’ locker room. He did not return to the game after halftime, and the Lakers officially ruled him out with about eight minutes left in the third quarter.

Davis had six points on only 2-of-9 shooting while nursing a sprained left knee that developed in Game 3 following a chase-down block on Suns guard Devin Booker with 2:30 left in the first half. But Davis stayed in the game and finished with 34 points on 11-for-22 shooting.

Since Sunday's loss to the Suns, Vogel said Davis has received treatment "nonstop." Vogel also shared some detail on how both injuries have evolved.

"The groin is the bigger priority. I don’t believe the knee is an issue," Vogel said. "He was playing with a little bit of soreness in the knee the other night, but it’s more about the groin right now."

Meanwhile, Vogel said that Lakers shooting guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope will play after missing Game 4 because of a a left knee contusion. Vogel revealed that Caldwell-Pope "still has some soreness," but plans to ride a stationary bike in between rotations so that he can stay loose.
