Denver Nuggets big man Nikola Jokic was nearly unstoppable Tuesday night as he powered his team to a 121-112 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in a huge matchup of Western Conference heavyweights.

With his team leading late in the game between the second- and third-best teams in the West, Jokic was greeted with chants of "MVP" from the hometown Denver crowd as he stepped to the free-throw line.

After the game, which saw him finish with a game-high 36 points and 10 assists as well as nine rebounds, Jokic was asked on the TNT broadcast about the chants.

And he had quite a humorous response.

"I think it's funny to be honest, I think that there's a better player than me that they're going to win MVP," the 24-year-old native of Serbia said.

"Just trying to play really good team basketball, that's all I'm trying to do," Jokic added.

Jokic, in his fourth NBA season, entered Tuesday night averaging 20.4 points, 10.8 rebounds and 7.7 assists. While he's right that he probably won't win MVP β€” Giannis Antetokounmpo and James Harden seem to be the two front-runners for the award β€” Jokic's play has the Nuggets at 42-18 and in second place in the West.
