Pelicans' Anthony Davis drops rare 5x5 statistical game in loss to 76ers

New Orleans Pelicans forward-center Anthony Davis dropped a rare 5x5 game — at least a total of five in five categories (points, rebounds, assist, steals, blocks) in New Orleans’ 121-120 loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Davis didn’t have a great scoring night (4 for 13 from the field) but he finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, five steals and five blocks.

He is the first player to accomplish the rare feat since Golden State’s Draymond Green did it in 2015. In the past 23 years, it has happened just eight times.

Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon is the king of the 5x5, accomplishing it six times. In his final 5x5 in 1993, he had 34 points, 10 rebounds, eight blocks, five assists and five steals.

Former Utah star Andrei Kirilenko is the only other player to register a 5x5 more than once since the 1984-85 season.

It should be noted that steals and blocks were not official NBA stats until the 1973-74 season.

As impressive as Davis’ stat line is, Sixers center Joel Embiid had 31 points and 19 rebounds and now has 12 games with at least 30 points and 10 rebounds. He is the first player with that many 30-10 games through a team’s first 20 contests since Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1972-73.
