Hornets get a win, stay alive vs. Heat

USA TODAY
Charlotte Hornets guard Kemba Walker (15) and his team got a big playoff win.

The long losing streak is over. For the Charlotte Hornets, the playoffs had been nothing short of a nightmare, with 12 straight losses going into Saturday's game against the Miami Heat.

But with a balanced attack Saturday, they built a big lead in the third quarter after an 18-0 run broke open a 53-53 game and held on for a 96-80 win, ended the losing and prevented the franchise from tying the longest playoffs losing streak in NBA history.

Although the Hornets didn't shoot the ball particularly well, they had six players in double figures, but more importantly had four turnovers to Miami's 14 (one came in the closing seconds when they took a shot clock violation, or they would've set a record for fewest turnovers).

Jeremy Lin led the scoring for Charlotte with 18 and Kemba Walker had 17

Even in the loss, Miami's Luol Deng continued to be outstanding in the series. He had 19 points and eight rebounds and shot 50% from the floor. For the series, Deng is averaging 22 points and shooting 64%.

The Knicks from 2001-12 hold the record for most playoff losses with 13.
