Staff Writer

After finishing with a 1-2 record in Salt Lake City, the Philadelphia 76ers opened their summer league stint in Las Vegas on Saturday with a 91-84 victory over the Detroit Pistons.

The two teams alternated leads throughout the contest before the Sixers took over in the fourth quarter. The team outscored the Pistons by 12 points in the period and forced six turnovers, which resulted in nine points down the stretch.

The back-and-forth contest featured 11 lead changes, with the Sixers going ahead for good after ending the game on an 18-10 run. They shot 47.6% in the fourth quarter and held the Pistons to just six field goals over the last 10 minutes.

After picking up the victory to begin their stay in the desert, the Sixers will return to action on Monday against the Portland Trail Blazers at the Thomas & Mack Center (8:30 p.m. EDT, NBA TV).

Here are the player grades for Saturday:

Ricky Council IV: A

Council produced a game-high 24 points and six rebounds to lead the Sixers to the win. He went 7-of-17 from the field and got to the free-throw line nine times, converting each attempt. He was very active on both ends of the court and threw down several emphatic dunks; he even drew a technical foul for hanging on the rim. Council has now scored at least 20 points three times in four games.

Keve Aluma: A+

Aluma registered his best performance of summer league, recording 19 points and eight rebounds on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. He scored eight points alone in the fourth quarter and had a nice sequence late to seal the victory after knocking down a 3-pointer and then converting an and-1 opportunity. The free agent has had a great stint thus far with the Sixers and is making a name for himself this summer.

Jeff Dowtin Jr.: B+

Dowtin finished with 18 points, eight assists and five rebounds on 7-of-13 shooting from the field. He brought his experience to the court and helped the Sixers pull out with the win with a strong effort down the stretch, recording eight points and four assists in the fourth quarter. Dowtin has scored at least 15 points in all four summer games.

Jared McCain: A-

McCain recorded 11 points, six rebounds, two steals and one assist in 26 minutes. He struggled mightily from the field, connecting on only four of 14 shot attempts, but remained engaged to finish a game-high plus-19 on the court. The 16th pick brought good ball pressure throughout the contest and played the passing lanes well in the decisive fourth quarter. He still hasn't had a signature offensive explosion yet, but McCain is still contributing at a high level so far.

Adem Bona: B+

Bona continued to showcase his rebounding ability and rim protection, producing eight points, seven rebounds and five blocks in 23 minutes. He has great instincts to anticipate plays on defense and looks to be grasping coverages and other reads very well to start summer league. His progression and development should be fun to watch this year.
