Stephen Curry's ankle might still be in question, but his financial footing has never been better.

With the 11:59 p.m. ET deadline looming for players in the 2009 NBA draft class to land extensions, the Golden State Warriors guard agreed to a four-year, $44 million deal Wednesday.

The agreement was confirmed by a person with knowledge of the negotiations, who requested anonymity because financial terms aren't typically revealed by teams.

Even with Curry's spotty health history, the Warriors were well aware that he's an integral part of their plan that now includes new center Andrew Bogut.

With coach Mark Jackson entering his second season and Bogut expected to make his debut tonight in Phoenix against the Suns, the Warriors fully intend to make a playoff push this season. They clearly decided that Curry, the fourth-year player who has averaged 17.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 1.7 steals in three seasons, is as big a part of that as any.

Yet because Curry was coming off right ankle surgery in April, his agent, Jeff Austin, and Warriors general manager Bob Myers had tabled talks during the preseason so the team could observe the guard in action before deciding on their level of commitment.

Curry, who missed 40 of 66 games in 2011-12 because of the ankle, turned it yet again in preseason play Oct. 19 and was told by Jackson to rest until the regular season opened. It was hardly the strong start Curry wanted to prove he was worthy of a long-term deal.

But he is expected to play tonight in the Warriors' opener at Phoenix.

Curry's deal was similar to that of Denver point guard Ty Lawson, who landed a four-year, $48 million extension with the Nuggets on Tuesday.
