Harrison twins' father: 'Maryland has come on strong'

Eric Prisbell, USA TODAY Sports

Aaron Harrison Sr. said he enjoyed a "very good" lunch with Maryland Coach Mark Turgeon and assistant Bino Ranson today.

Aaron Harrison, and his twin brother Andrew, are set to choose between Maryland and Kentucky on Thursday.

Maryland is making a visit to the Houston area today to make a closing argument in its attempt to secure commitments from Harrison Sr.'s sons, Aaron and Andrew, twin brothers who national recruiting analysts believe represent the best package deal in recent college basketball history.

"Maryland has come on strong in the end," Harrison Sr. said in a telephone interview after the lunch.

Kentucky is the other finalist.

Harrison Sr. emphasized that there is no division within the family on the decision and that the decision belongs to his sons, who are likely to spend just one year in college before jumping to the NBA.

The attention on the Harrisons has intensified in recent weeks. Harrison Sr. said that he got at least 65 calls from media Web sites alone Tuesday.

Harrison Sr. called a USA TODAY Sports reporter to offer feedback on the story about the recruitment being a showdown between Kentucky Coach John Calipari and Under Armour, the shoe company that sponsors Maryland.

"I thought it was great," Harrison Sr. said.
