Howards holds off IUPUI 57-47

WASHINGTON (AP) β€” James Daniel scored 18 points and James Carlton had 17 to help Howard beat IUPUI 57-47 on Monday in the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Marcel Boyd grabbed 13 rebounds as Howard (6-6) outrebounded IUPUI 45-29. But the Bison also turned the ball over 21 times and made just 15 of 25 free throws to keep IUPUI close.

Freshman Leo Svete scored nine points for IUPUI (2-8) and Marcellus Barksdale had eight, all in the second half.

The Jaguars lost their sixth consecutive game. They were held to 15-of-53 shooting (28.3 percent), including 4 of 26 from 3-point range, and hit just 13 of 23 free throws.

Howard was ahead 28-19 at the half and started the second half on a 10-4 run.

IUPUI used a 14-1 run to pull within 39-37 midway through the second half, but Howard scored the next 10.
