Maryland-Eastern Shore slips by UT Martin, 63-60

MARTIN, Tenn. (AP) β€” Devin Martin knocked down a jumper with 41 seconds left to give Maryland-Eastern Shore the lead for good and padded it with two free throws for a 63-60 win in a back-and-forth battle at Tennessee-Martin Tuesday night.

Martin converted three free throws and Devon Walker's 3-pointer gave the Hawks an eight-point lead with 7:00 left in the game, but UT Martin scrambled back. Marshun Newell knocked down a 3-pointer and Javier Martinez converted a three-point play to trail by one, 53-52 with 4:09 remaining.

Following a TV timeout with 3:27 left Twymond Howard converted two free throws to give UT Martin the lead, 54-53. From there, the lead changed hands six times before Martin put the Hawks in front for good.

Walker finished with 16 points to lead Maryland-Eastern Shore (8-8, 1-0 MEAC).

Deville Smith and Newell finished with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Tennessee-Martin (7-5).
