Western Carolina puts away St. Catharine 86-70

CULLOWHEE, N.C. (AP) β€” James Sinclair poured in 24 points and Western Carolina put away NAIA Saint Catharine for an 86-70 victory Tuesday night.

Torrion Brummit chipped in 17 points while Tucker Thompson and Devin Peterson had 12 apiece for the Catamounts (5-8), who outscored St. Catharine 40-4 in the paint and had 14 fast-break points.

The Patriots were held to 33.3-percent shooting and couldn't hang with Western Carolina late despite hitting 15 3-pointers. Lorenzo Dewberry hit seven 3s to total 29 points, Khalil Murphy had 14 and Ben Vozzola 10.

St. Catharine erased an early 12-point deficit in the second half as Dewberry hit a trio of 3s to pull within one with 15:30 remaining. Western Carolina answered right back as Mike Brown hit a jumper to ignite a 15-2 run to make it 60-46 at the 10:24 mark.

The Patriots couldn't recover, trailing by at least nine the rest of the way.
