Indiana hometown renames road for Lauren Hill

AP

GREENDALE, Ind. (AP) β€” A southeastern Indiana city has renamed a road for a college basketball player who inspired millions with her play while she battled terminal brain cancer.

Lauren Hill's hometown of Greendale this week renamed an alleyway as #22 Lauren Hill Lane. The alleyway was where Hill walked to get to Greendale City Park to play basketball. Near the entrance of the park is a stone that reads "Never Give Up."

Hill was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor in 2014 during her senior year of high school but decided to attend Division III Mount St. Joseph in nearby Cincinnati and play basketball even though doctors gave her only a year to live. The 19-year-old died April 10, 2015.

The NCAA selected her as the co-winner of its Inspiration Award this year.
