Morehead State holds off Lipscomb 89-75

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — DeJuan Marrero scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds to lead Morehead State in an 89-75 win over Lipscomb on Sunday.

Xavier Moon and Soufiyane Diakite added 12 points apiece and Ronnye Beamon and Jordan Walker had 10 each for Morehead State, which shot 51 percent from the field and outrebounded Lipscomb 46-23.

The Eagles opened the game with a 12-0 run capped by Ty'Quan Bitting's bucket and never trailed. Marrero had a jumper and two layups during the run. Early in the second half, a 3-pointer from Walker capped an 11-0 run and made it 56-34 with 13:37 left.

Lipscomb (0-2) cut the gap back to single digits with a pair of free throws from Garrison Matthews to make it 80-72 with 1:24 remaining, but Morehead State scored nine of the next 12 points to seal it.

Matthews' 27 points led four Lipscomb players in double figures.
