Duquesne pulls away from St. Francis in second half , 89-75

PITTSBURGH (AP) β€” Rene Castro hit six treys and scored a game-high 26 points to help lead Duquesne to an 89-75 win over St. Francis (PA) on Wednesday night.

Duquesne has won 32 of its last 35 games against its in-state rival.

Tarin Smith finished with 23 points on 8 of 11 shooting and 6 of 7 at the line for the Dukes (2-1), who shot 52.5 percent overall and hit 13 of 25 from 3-point range. Isiaha Mike added 16 points for the Dukes.

Duquesne led 38-36 at the break but pulled away in the second half. Castro nailed a 3 with 13:05 left which extended the lead past double figures (60-49), and five straight free throws by Smith and Castro made it 85-68 with 2:20 left.

Josh Nebo led St. Francis with 17 points and 16 rebounds. Randall Gaskins Jr. and Isaiah Blackmon each added 12 points for the Red Flash (0-2).
