Southeastern Louisiana beats UTEP 72-56

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Davon Hayes scored 19 points and grabbed five rebounds as Southeastern Louisiana won its third-straight, beating the University of Texas at El Paso 72-56 on Wednesday night.

Marlain Veal added 18 points, six assists and nine rebounds for the Lions (4-1). Dominic Nelson had 10 points and led the team with 11 rebounds. Southern Louisiana averaged 48.3 percent shooting from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. UTEP averaged 33.3 percent from the field and 53 percent from the line.

Southern Louisiana took its first lead of the game (11-9) on a Veal layup with 14:39 to play in the first period. The Lions never trailed after that and were up 42-27 at the break.

UTEP got as close as nine points, 49-40, early in the second half but trailed by double digits the rest of the way.

Omega Harris led the Miners (2-3) with 13 points.
