USA TODAY Sports

The NCAA paid tribute Saturday night to the team that broke barriers in 1966.

Former Texas Western center David Lattin poses for a photo at Fonde recreation center. His Miners won the 1966 NCAA title with an all-black lineup. His grandson, Khadeem, plays for Oklahoma.

At halftime of the Syracuse-North Carolina game, the famous 1966 Texas Western team that won the NCAA championship was honored with a video tribute that included an introduction by President Obama.

The Texas Western team, coach by Don Haskins, became the first to start five black players in a championship game. The Miners beat Adolph Rupp's Kentucky for the title. Texas Western is now called Texas-El Paso.

Fourteen former players, family members of players and staffers from that team were introduced at half court, including Dave Lattin, the grandfather of Oklahoma forward Khadeem Lattin.

The crowd at NRG Stadium gave them a standing ovation.
