Michigan State men's basketball program releases video after NCAA Tournament selection highlighting naysayers

The Michigan State Spartans men's basketball Twitter account flipped the script when it came to trolling on Sunday.

As the Spartans stumbled at various points throughout the 2020-21 season, the team found a way — defeating three top five teams and two tournament No. 1 seeds certainly helped — to be among the tournament selection committee's "last four teams in" the field of 68

To celebrate, @MSU_Basketball posted a video with screenshots of tweets from members of the media forecasting the Spartans' NCAA Tournament streak ending at 22 straight seasons. Radio and podcast clips implying a similar fate play in the background.

The 11th-seeded Spartans will play the UCLA Bruins in a play-in game. The winner would face BYU in the first round.

Michigan State Spartans head coach Tom Izzo celebrates after the game against the Michigan Wolverines on March 7.

While Michigan State lost four in a row in January and dropped seven of its first nine conference games, the Spartans regained tournament prospects after defeating Illinois on Feb. 23 and Ohio State, a two-seed, two nights later. They closed the season with a win over rival Michigan, but experienced its earliest exit in the Big Ten Tournament with a second-round loss to Maryland.

To the victors (or in this case, the selectees) go the spoils.
